Summer Reading is fun 2015!

What better way to encourage your kids to read and stay off the television all day then with fun prizes and rewards.  Our local libraries offer fun programs and things to do for FREE throughout the Summer. Plus they can count the same books for all the programs!  Check back often for updates.

Library Programs

NAS library "Read to the Rhythm" Summer Reading Program
Eight weeks of programs and events while you work towards your reading goal. Early registration begins May 25, 2015, and is open till June 30th. The program officially starts June 15, when you begin logging your reading times, and ends August 7, 2015.  Program is open to anyone that has base access.  Register at the NAS library or online.

Local Businesses

Kids in 8th grade and under:
Read 15 minutes a day for a month in June and July. (Grown-ups may read aloud to kids who are still learning.) Use the reading log to add up your minutes and have your parent or guardian initial each week. Once you’ve reached 300 or more minutes, bring your log to your local HPB to claim your Bookworm Bucks.
High School teens:
Read a book each month in June and July and write a short review. Skip the reading log and bring your review to your local HPB to claim your Bookworm Bucks.

1.  Read any eight books this summer and record them in this Imagination’s Destination Journal. Be sure to let us know to whom you would recommend each book, and why.
2. Bring your completed journal to a Barnes & Noble store between May 19th and September 7th, 2015.
3.  Choose your FREE reading adventure from the book list featured on the back of the journal.

Corpus Christi Hooks “Get Hooked on Reading”
Summer reading program offered to all students in the Coastal Bend area. This program is designed to encourage students to read during the summer months. All students in first through eighth grades are welcome to join. Starting on June 8th, students can begin sending in this completed form by mail, fax or drop off at Whataburger Field. The deadline to send in the form will be on August 1st.  Get up to 4 tickets for the "Get Hooked on Reading/Book Drive Night" game on Sunday, August 9th. Kids read ten books and record them on their reading log (they have until  October 1st, 2015 to mail it in).  Adults initial by the title so kids get credit for reading. Once the log is complete, mail the form and kids will get a special t‑shirt.  The H‑E‑Buddy Summer Reading Club is only for children who are residents of Texas and between the ages of 3‑12.
