Corpus Christi Fun for Kids Weekday Picks April 25-28, 2016

There are always fun things to do on weekends but sometimes you want to do something with your kids during the week. I've picked out a few ideas of fun things to do and the best part is most of them are FREE!

Monday, April 25

Buc Days Carnival gates open at 5:00 pm
Amusements will be returning in 2016 as the Buc Days Stripes Carnival provider for the 15th consecutive year. Crabtree Amusements, one of the largest and leading carnival operators in the nation, provides a variety of rides from extreme to mild to satisfy patrons of all ages. New this year is the Petting Zoo Presented By Stripes. The newest destination at the festival for the whole family, is the Stripes Petting Zoo. Both children and adults will enjoy feeding and petting, baby deer, goats, llamas and kangaroos in the petting zoo area. Also while at the festival, take a ride on a real live pony! $5 per ride.
Cost: Regular gate admission is $5 for adults. Children, seniors (65 and older), military $3. Children Under 36 inches are FREE.

Corpus Christi Hooks One-Dollar Hot Dogs and Soda at 7:05 pm (gates open 6:05)
One-Dollar Hot Dogs and Soda, sponsored by Mrs Baird's. Carroll High School's Nick Cheesman is our Mrs Baird's Swing for Success scholarship recipient. National Anthem by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Trumpet Ensemble.

Janet F. Harte Public Library Dancing Under The Stars at 6:30 pm 
Come have a great time on the patio. Dance and listen to wonderful Big Band era music by saxophonist Hector Garza.

Tuesday, April 26

Oso Bay Wetlands Preserve and Learning Center Guided Nature Walk from 8 to 9 am.
Get in touch with nature while the weather is still nice.  Please bring good walking shoes, plenty of water, and dress for the weather.  Binoculars and field guides will be loaned on a first come first served basis. All children attending the program must be accompanied by an adult.  Meet at the front porch of the Learning Center. For more information contact Manuel Cantu at 361-826-3947 or manuelc2@cctexas.com.

Join us as we enjoy a family favorite. We provide a snack and drink, but you are welcome to bring your own munchies, a blanket, and pillow! All ages.

Robert Wollman Planetarium at King High School at 5:30 pm and 7 pm
Tickets go on sale 30 minutes prior to each show time. There is no late seating. Reservations are not required for the Tuesday evening shows. Tips: The planetarium does get cold at times. For evening shows, it might be a good idea to bring a jacket or sweater.

For kids 0-17 yrs old, stop by and R.E.A.D to one of our pawsome four legged canines brought to you by Paws Up. Limited space. Sign up the day before or day of event. Parent or guardian must be present.

Art Center of Corpus Christi Family Art Time from 5 to 9 pm
A kids art project every Wednesday.  FREE for the whole family to enjoy. All ages are welcome (children accompanied by parent/guardian), drop-in art activity, no registration, wear your painting garb!

Buy a ticket at the box office and get your kid's ticket free. Donate your gently-used clothing item to Goodwill near the main gates at the giant Whataburger fry box. Thursday, April 28

Oso Bay Wetlands Preserve and Learning Center Storytime from 3:30 to 4:30 pm
Join Oso Preserve staff as they read nature children’s books, explore artifacts and meet animal ambassadors. We invite you to spend time learning more about local topics through children’s literature. Each story will be supplemented with a walk, animal artifact, or live animal visitor. Discounted soda and beer from Stripes.  After 8:30 a.m. on the 28th, go to the Stripes Facebook Page to learn the Stripes Thirsty Thursday Word of the Day. Later that day or night, repeat the word at the Whataburger Field box office and receive a free Hooks Thirsty Thursday reserved-seat or general admission ticket for each Thirsty Thursday ticket purchased.  National Anthem by Crowley High School Band.
