Friday, January 6

Art Museum of South Texas Free First Friday from 10 am - 5 pm
The first Friday of every month is free public admission to the Art Museum of South Texas. The Gift Shop and Hester's Cafe also are open to the public.

Marina Arts District Downtown Artwalk from 5:30 to 10 pm
On the first Friday of every month you’ll find artists, musicians and all things creative converge in the Marina Arts District. It's where Downtown comes alive with bands on every block, food trucks serving up South Texas fare, and art galleries featuring local and national artists. Take in the free live music and local flavors outside, find a nice watering hole to duck into for a quick drink, or grab a bite to eat. Make sure to stop by the The Historic Ritz Theatre to view the Altars of Remembrance display at 715 N Chaparral St.

First United Methodist Church Corpus Christi Presents the African Children's Choir at 7:30 pm
Join the African Children’s Choir as they perform in the Coastal Bend during their US Tour. Come and experience a performance that shows the beauty, dignity and potential of each African child! Admission will be free for all ages; a free-will offering will follow the Choir’s concert. The program features well-loved children’s songs, traditional Spirituals and rhythmic Gospel favorites. In spite of the tragedy that has marred their young lives, the children are radiant with hope, musically gifted and always wonderfully entertaining. The free-will offering will help support the Music for Life Institute. The African Children’s Choir has been Music for Life’s major international program during its 30-year history. Music for Life Institute (MFLI) has relief and development programs in seven African countries. MFL has currently educated over 52,000 children and hundreds of thousands of lives have been impacted by Music for Life Institute’s international relief and development programs.

Saturday, January 7

Home Depot Kids Workshop from 9 am to 12 pm
Join our hands-on workshop and you and your child can get to work on a wood toolbox they can use for keeping anything from art supplies to toys neat and portable. Once the toolbox is built, your child can paint it in their favorite color.All kids get to keep their craft, receive a FREE certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last. Children must be present at the store to participate in the workshop and receive the kit, apron and pin. All store participate! NOTE: Craft may be substituted.

Oso Bay Wetlands Preserve and Learning Center Guided Nature Walks! from 9 to 10 am
Meet on the Learning Center porch. Please bring good walking shoes, plenty of water, and dress for the weather. This program is FREE of charge and open to individuals and families. Binoculars and field guides will be loaned on a first come first served basis. All children attending the program must be accompanied by an adult. For more information contact 361-826-PLAY (7529)

Anita and W.T. Neyland Public Library J.R.R. Tolkien Birthday Movie Bash at 10 am
Celebrate J.R.R. Tolkien's 125th birthday every weekend in January by watching your favorite Tolkien movie. You can bring your own snacks, drinks and cushions too. Today's movie: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (170 min PG-13). Children under 13 must be accompanied by parent at all times.

Michaels Stores Kids Club - Sprout® Kindness Box from 10 am to 12 pm
They craft, you shop! Kids 3 and up can enjoy a quick project and take home a finished masterpiece. Sign up in store or online, or just drop in. Parent or guardian must remain on premises during the event.

Barnes and Noble Clifford's Good Deeds and Clifford the Big Red Dog Storytime at 11 am
For this fun, classic Storytime, young readers are invited into the happy world of Clifford the Big Red Dog and his friends. We will read favorites Clifford's Good Deeds and Clifford the Big Red Dog. Activities and coloring to follow.

La Retama Central Library Family Loom Knitting from 2-4 pm
Join us and learn how to make a hat, scarf, pom pom or flower. Ages 8 & up. All material provided. You are welcome to bring your own yarn if you prefer a specific color. Most projects will require more than one session to complete.

Oso Bay Wetlands Preserve and Learning Center Storytime at 3:30 pm
Join Oso Preserve staff members as they read nature themed children’s books, explore artifacts, and meet the animal ambassadors. Learn more about native wildlife, habitats, adaptations and other topics through relevant children’s stories. This program is FREE of charge and intended for children ages 2-6. Each story will be supplemented with a walk, artifact, animal ambassador or other interactive. All children attending the program must be accompanied by an adult. 35th Annual Boar's Head & Yule Log Festival at 3, 5, and 7 pm
The annual nonofficial wrap-up to the holiday season with three one-hour performances.
Cost: Free admission but canned goods and non-perishables on behalf of the "Good King Wenceslas" fund, which benefits the Food Bank of Corpus Christi will be accepted.

Marina Arts District BridgeWalk from 8:30 am - 11 am 
Registration starts at 7:15 am and Walk begins at 8:30 pm,  BridgeWalk is a monthly opportunity to get some exercise with a one of a kind view. The bridge route takes you up and over the beautiful Corpus Christi Harbor Bridge. The Alternate route for those with strollers, small children, and animals can take the scenic route down along the water to the Marina T Heads and back. Both routes are measured to be 6020 yards (3.42 miles).

Gulf Coast Humane Society Education Class: What is a Shelter? from 12 to 3 pm
Students will learn about what a shelter is and what goes into the everyday operations of a shelter. They will learn about all the departments and uncover the many reasons why animals would end up in shelter as well as problem solve to discover ways it can be prevented. Classes are open to parents and children aged 7-10.
Cost: Classes are free, but donations are appreciated! There are limited spots available in each class, so be sure to reserve your spot by emailing Stephanie at!
